Duct Cleaning

We´re going to take a stab in the dark and guess that you´re probably not spending much time thinking about your air ducts. While this may sound like a personal problem, it´s actually a common issue that must be addressed. Air ducts are like power steering in your cars. You know you need them, but you don´t really notice them until something is wrong.

However, unlike power steering, rarely does something catastrophic happen with air ducts. Unless you just dropped your wedding ring through the grate, but we won´t even go there.

The reality is air ducts can build up with all kinds of neat stuff like dirt and debris. What more of us will notice is the build up of eye-watering, headache-inducing, asthma-irritating, nose clogging allergens. The usual suspects are mold, pollen, dust and pet dander (score one for fish!). All this happens over time, while we go about our daily lives and neglect our poor little air ducts.

Don´t even get us started on efficiency. Oh, ok, if you insist. Humor us, for a minute, and think of air ducts like arteries in your body. A dirty duct is like a clogging artery. When arteries get clogged up, the heart has to work harder to pump the blood, reducing efficiency. When ducts get clogged up, it´s harder for the heart of your heating and cooling system to pump the air. Get the picture? (No, we cannot guarantee that you will save 50% on your next utility bill, so don´t even ask).

So what, pray tell, shall I do?

Give your ducts a bi-annual birthday present by getting them inspected for clogging agents. On average, it´s a good idea to get them cleaned every 5-7 years. Obviously, this varies depending on each house, hence the inspections.

Okay, I´m almost thinking about nearly calling someone to clean my ducts. What will they do when they get here?

Great question. Here is what we do:

Step 1: Inspect your air ducts before we begin and explain exactly what we will be doing.

Step 2: Our technician will remove all of your duct grilles and clean them thoroughly.

Step 3: Use a powerful vacuum with a rotating brush to scrape off and remove the aforementioned usual suspects. (Note: the vacuum will generally not pick up lost items like, well, wedding rings for example. So don´t drop it in there in the first place.) www.rotobrush.com/rotobproduct.htm

Step 4: This step is actually part of step 3, but we didn´t want step 3 to get a big head and feel more important than the other steps because of its size. The dirt and debris will be removed from your ducts and deposited into our receptacle named Jared (ever seen Coneheads?) It actually goes into our machine, Jared filed for workerscomp.

How much does all this stuff cost? I love my air ducts, but not enough to break into my kids college fund.

E-mail us or give us a call to get an estimate. It really all depends on the number of ducts and where the trunkline is and all that stuff. We´d be happy to talk to you about the process and our pricing.
